Hey there y'all.

With my new techie job, I feel the need to grab some ideas for a new rig. I want to keep it high end, but no more than about $1200 - I want one that'll last another few years! It'll be strictly for gaming and fine films. I am missing you guys plenty, and my rig cannot run BC2.

Let me know, if you feel, I'd love to rejoin the fight.

I built an Intel i5 4670K system with:
Gigabyte Z87-G41 PC Mate MB
Samsung 250gb SSD
1 tb Western Digital Black HD
16 gb ram
Gigabyte 4gb Nvidia 760 GTX Video card

All for under $1000 and it runs everything I've thrown at it with max settings @ 1920 x 1080
I got the motherboard/processor combo from www.microcenter.com for around $260. The video card was the most expensive item because I opted for the 4gb model versus the 2gb.

I built my son the exact same system except that we used his 260 GTX video card he already had and it runs everything maxed.

Me likey. Do you think that the i5 core will have some long term staying power? Also: RAM preferences?

I think so. The i5 4670k is the best bang for the buck and since it is the "k" version it's overclockable.
Oromis just built a similar system too. He'll be able to give you more tech info than I can. I know just enough to be dangerous.

This is the ram I bought:

Spartan,

The Intel Core i5 is the best processor running out there currently for gaming and most other applications. I would not worry about a core i7 if your not doing LOTS of video editing and compiling. Also the new motherboards can adjust clock rates and even overclock it on the fly for you while gaming or doing office work etc. Longevity wise, you should definitely be good for 3yrs with the possibility of up to 5 or 6 depending what you want to do with your computer at the time. **That last bit there is also subject to unforseen changes in the IT and gaming worlds ;)**
